Here We Go

A few months ago, we moved to a small acreage in Iowa. Since then, we have had several little adventures and I have had people tell me I should start a blog to document these adventures. So here it goes. Maybe my stories will entertain some while others will read about the crazy in my life and be glad they live the lives they do. Either way, I suppose it will be a good way for me to keep track of what goes on here at our Fe Fi Faux Farm.

To start things off, I suppose I should give a little background information about our place. It is five acres. We have one neighbor, unless you count the herd of horses next door, then we have lots of neighbors. But really, we can only see one house across our meadow and we like it that way. But we also technically live in town and are surrounded by houses though we can't see them through the trees. One of my favorite aspects of our place is the close proximity of the bike trail. We love to play outside and it has been fun to spend so much time on the trail.

We apparently are gluttons for punishment as this place requires a great deal of upkeep. The house is an older house and the land has not been well-cared for over the last few years. This is especially evident by the large amounts of poison ivy that I unknowingly hand-picked during our first few days here. The sneaky stuff was hidden amongst some larger plants and vines and I didn't discover the poison ivy until a week later when I broke out in a severe poison ivy rash. This was not my favorite "welcome to the neighborhood" gift ever but it is the most memorable and I still have the scars as a memento. For the record, I do wear gloves when gardening now.
