Kissy Kissy

My goats like the cats. Not sure the cats like the goats though.
When Smoky sits on the post, Tulip knows she can't easily escape her kisses!

Wetherby got a bit jealous so decided to give his own kisses.

Brave, little Granite visited the goats and chickens and got kisses, too!

Sleepy Puppy!

Miska has had a busy few days at her new home. It makes her very sleepy and she looks so cute when she sleeps so I have taken lots of pictures.

This is how I start the morning. 😊

Puppy Loaf!

She was helping me garden by warming up the spot where I wanted to dig.

Yes, she is on the couch. This time I can blame my husband for that!

Bowser makes a great pillow for Miska!

That face! So cute!!!

Sweet, little lap dog.

Little Bear

We brought home a little bear this weekend. Well, actually, it was a Great Pyrenees puppy named Miska, which means little bear. She had a rough day yesterday as she left her family behind and took a long road trip to a new home. Today, though, she is doing better and is happily exploring her new surroundings.
These five Pyrenees are just a few of the ones on the farm where Miska was born.

Miska is eight weeks old and already weighs twenty pounds!

The girls love their new fluff ball, as they adoringly call her.

Our first family picture with our new edition.

Miska was not too thrilled with her first car ride and yelped continuously until I held her in my lap. After riding with me for a while, she went into the kennel and rode calmly the rest of the way. Such a good, sweet girl!

We stopped at a friend's house on our way home so they could see the puppy. Miska was a bit overwhelmed so she didn't explore much. She got lots of attention and even got a little nap in though!

Treats!

So the girls wanted to give the chickens some treats. I hadn't fed the other critters quite yet so they saw treats being handed out and they came running. Even the alpacas!  Of course, they weren't very interested in bread crumbs so they left for their real food.

Hoofin' It

It was hoof trimming time for the alpacas at Fe Fi Faux Farm again. It went much better this time. I think everyone is getting the hang of the whole process, even though no one really likes it.

I have had a few people ask me what an alpaca hoof is like so I thought I would take a couple pictures. In the first photo, my husband is trimming the hard hoof part at the front of the foot. There is also a close up of the foot in the second photo.

As you can see, an alpaca hoof has two toes, which have a hard toenail and a pad. The pad is much like a dog's pad, only it is larger and not as rough. This helps the alpaca be less damaging to the pasture than a horse or a cow which have hard hooves. It also helps an alpaca to be more sure-footed on difficult terrain. My favorite aspect of this foot type, however, is that it makes their kicks not hurt so much!

Goat Helper

Tulip was trying to retrieve my rake for me. Isn't she sweet?

Or is she trying to eat it? That would be less helpful.

Chicks with Mohawks

My Golden Polish chicks are so cool. They have Mohawks. I just had to take some pictures of them, well, because they make me giggle. I mean, just look at them!

Kitties Are One Month Old

The kitties have sharp claws, thus the grimace on my daughter's face.

Mommy kitty cleaning her little one.

Oh, hi there.

Water is wet! And cold!

Beginning to explore the barn.

What is this?

Alpaca Shower

I discovered that the alpacas like to keep cool by being hosed down.

Here is Huxley taking his turn.

He enjoyed it so much he even dipped his head in.

Oh yeah, that feels good.

Soggy 'Paca

No! Don't lay down in the mud!

Dust Bath

I have been working with my alpacas to get them friendlier and easier to handle. They have not been making it easy for me as I have not been able to find a treat that they can't resist. In fact, I have not been able to find a treat that they will even eat. Until today. Today, I discovered they like grass. Shocker, I know.

See, we locked them out of their back pasture in order to let the grass grow a bit better there so now they are stuck eating hay. They prefer the grass and have been willing to eat it out of my hands! All four of them even! This is great progress.

Anyway, after I had fed them awhile, I went in to let the goats be free (I locked them in the chicken yard so they wouldn't bug the alpacas) and the alpacas approached me. This is new. Then they even followed me. (Hopefully this doesn't backfire on me since they are the only critters who give me space when I am out there. I don't need to be completely surrounded by all the critters all the time.) The alpacas then decided to take a dust bath which was fun to watch. They usually don't do that when we are so close so it was nice to see that they are getting used to us.

Hey, Chickie Ladies!

The chickens are tired of all the attention that the goats and the alpacas and the chicks and the kittens are getting so I did a mini photo shoot to appease them. I certainly didn't want them to go on strike and refuse to lay eggs. Of course, once the camera came out, most of them either got a little shy or crowded the camera which made things a bit difficult. Speaking of difficult, the goats were not real helpful during the shoot either. I know, it surprised me, too!

This is Lacey. She was really disappointed to find I didn't have treats.

Aussie decided to sit next to me on the log.

Anna can be a bit pushy when she thinks it should be feeding time.

Pepper thought it was fun to chase to dragging lead rope. Wetherby (the goat) was not impressed.

Outdoor Chicks

We let the chicks out to enjoy some nice weather.

They seemed to enjoy exploring in the grass.

Goats

This is Wetherby and Tulip. They always like to know what is going on so they keep an eye on me.

Tulip likes posing for the camera!
