Training

Today started out  by me throwing my back out so I couldn't do the things I had planned on but I was still able to keep busy with weird things.

This morning, we went to a nearby nature center for their annual nature egg hunt in the woods and prairie. Basically it is a nice little hike where you happen to find some eggs and get prizes. It is a fun time and our kids love it.

Then this afternoon, we continued with halter training the goats. I am very happy to report that it is going better. Both goats cooperated pretty well when I put the halter on and were just fine being led around. Yay for progress!

Of course the alpacas were once again jealous that the goats were eating lush grass. So we decided to start halter training them! But first, Jon had to catch them, which is not an easy task! There was lots of chasing and running around involved. Finally, he caught one. It was Chaucer, who was not thrilled to be trapped on one end of the lead rope with Jon on the other. But he soon calmed down and began enjoying the grass.

The "Victims"
We put the goats away and attempted to grab another alpaca. This time it was Tobi, likely caught because the poor thing can't see. Shearing day can't get here soon enough!

Anyway, Tobi did not like being out at all and refused to try and eat so he went back and Huxley was brought out. I make this sound so simple but really it involves a good ten minutes of chasing alpacas before another could be wrangled and brought out. They were too smart to get trapped in their stall which would have made it easier!

Huxley took a little while to calm down but once I took him from Jon, he did better and even did a bit of grazing. I think he was a bit upset with Jon and didn't want to be near him!

I am sure it was quite the sight to see Jon chasing alpacas, while the girls and I walked alpacas and goats in the yard. If the neighbors were watching, I am sure they now think we are crazy, if they didn't already think it before!

Chaucer didn't get far before chowing down on the grass!

Me and my 'paca

Trying to get the hair out of Tobi's eyes so he could see better. It worked! (for a few moments)

Huxley was not too happy with Jon
